Youth Exchange

Rotary Youth Exchange is administered by Rotary Clubs and Districts. It provides thousands of young people the opportunity to meet people from other countries while experiencing their cultures thus planting the seeds for a lifetime of international understanding.

This 12 month exchange is open to students who have completed Grade 12 and have been specially selected by the District Youth Exchange Committee, to travel to another country to spend a year attending a senior school and living with Rotary Host families in that country.

The program is open to all students who demonstrate leadership skills and who possess interpersonal skills to be flexible and who show a willingness to try new things that will enable them to be excellent cultural ambassadors. Rotary Clubs exist in more than 200 countries and geographical areas and Youth Exchanges take place in nearly all of them.

The short-term program provides the opportunity for a ‘family to family’ exchange. It is a reciprocal exchange – the student your family hosts will be your host family on the outbound journey.

This is not a school exchange. Selected students between the ages of 16-18 will travel to another country and spend 6-8 weeks living with a host family in that country. Students are selected by the Youth Exchange committee after their applications have been received via the website. They are then invited to selection and orientation camps and then placed in countries where Rotary Youth Exchange committees are involved in the same process.
